Description:This report presents tables and maps of a magnetic coordinate system, called the "apex coordinate system," particularly suited for the organization of observations of plasma density in the ionospheric F2 layer in low and middle latitudes. This coordinate system is based on a kind of magnetic shell, called an "apex shell,1' which consists of all those magnetic field lines whose apexes are at a given height above the surface of the earth. The three coordinates of a point are its "apex radius" or "apex latitude," which specifies a particular apex shell, and its height above the earth, which specifies two points on the magnetic field line, in the northern and southern hemisphere.
