Earthquake Research in NOAA 1971-1972 is the 7th annual review of the scientific work of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration related to the occurrence of earthquakes. Earthquake research within NOAA is conducted principally by the Earth Sciences Laboratories of the Environmental Research Laboratories, which also funds a number of supportinq research projects at several universities. However, other components of NOAA, in particular the National Geodetic Survey, also conduct studies related to the occurrence of earthquakes. The body of this document is a series of short papers that review the main results earthquake research supported by NOAA in Fiscal Year 1972. Each of the papers was reviewed at the annual Earthquake Research Review conference held in Boulder, Colorado, on July 26, 27, and 28, 1972. A number of the papers that were reviewed at the conference were not available to be included in this publication and are included as "title only". The papers are arranged according to subprogram, i.e., Engineering Seismology and each major section is concluded with a discussion of activities related to that subprogram that were not covered by the short papers.
