Description:The calibration techniques for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/Environmental Research Laboratories (NOAA/ERL) gust probe system are reviewed and the instrumental errors associated with the measurement of the fluxes of latent and sensible heat and momentum are calculated. Power spectra and cospectra of the fluctuating meteorological variables are displayed and comparisons of the eddy fluxes from the gust probe system with bulk aerodynamic calculations are reviewed. Also reviewed are comparisons of spectra and eddy fluxes from the NOAA/ERL gust probe system with those of the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the United Kingdom. Results of this report indicate that the NOAA/ERL airborne gust probe system is reliable for measuring turbulence parameters and that data obtained from the system can be used with confidence.
