  • Description:
"In December 1995, the National Weather Service, Central Region Headquarters (CRH) Web Page was introduced to the Internet. In the following months, the web site began a metamorphosis as others in CRH and the region realized the potential to reach those all over the world. What had started as a good way to make science information available to the public has quickly evolved. Over a short time, this web page grew beyond original motives to become a unified location for anyone wanting information about Central Region (CR) offices. Items contained within the CRH Web Page are divisional information, CR Highlights, Technical Attachments, and Program Area information (e.g., educational projects, the Co-op page, satellite training material and more). Regional Field Offices (FOs) have also been contributing to this effort. More than 20 local offices have designed pages for their offices and more are in the works. Recent advances include the incorporation of image maps, access counters, and an hourly statistics gatherer that utilizes CGI scripts and Perl. The technical aspects of this web server are constantly advancing as web applications are made to be more user friendly. Some future projects include adding forms, developing an Intranet and working with java applets. The World Wide Web is an ever changing information platform that is the epitome of public service. The CRH web page will continue to grow as the Internet expands, hopefully becoming a useful resource for all cyberspace cruisers."
