Description:Climate change and variability are key issues affecting the conservation and management of marine mammals. Marine mammal stocks are expected to respond to climate change and variability in a variety of ways that may manifest as shifts in distribution, abundance, and/or phenology. However, many stocks lack specific climate-related information. Vulnerability assessments can help fill that gap and identify candidate stocks for targeted climate-related research. The NOAA Fisheries Climate Science Strategy and Regional Action Plans call for vulnerability assessments of living marine resources including marine mammals. However, there are few methods in the literature specifically designed to assess the vulnerability of multiple marine mammal stocks. Here we present a method to assess the climate vulnerability of marine mammal stocks.
