Description:This was a transitional year for transport activities on the Snake and Columbia Rivers. The transportation program changed from a research mode of operation formerly operated by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northwest and Alaska Fisheries Center (NWAFC), to a management operation manned by the North Pacific Walla Walla District Corps of Engineers (NPW). The NPW provided funding and manpower to operate the program while the fishery agencies provided biological oversight. NWAFC biologists, experienced in the transportation program, were contracted to provide continuity during the transition, and to train state and NPW personnel for future management of the operation.
