During late June-early July 1976, sport divers and commercial fishermen reported extensive mortalities of demersal finfish and shellfish off the north-central New Jersey coast. The NMFS laboratory at Highlands, N.J. investigated the reports immediately and determined that an oxygen depletion problem existed in the sub-thermocline water layer off N.J. To further investigate and monitor the phenomenon and assess impacts to resources, a series of cruises collected data in the New York Bight from July through November 1976. This report is a compilation of hydrographic data collected during these cruises.
