Description:This report contains (1) a description of the Study area, that part of the Gulf of Alaska from Cape Spencer to Unimak Pass, including its physical features and fauna; (2) a listing of the data sources utilized in the report; (3) a general review of the.history of exploitation of demersal finfishes and shellfishes within the entire Study Area by domestic and foreign producers; (4) a review by regions within the Study Area of fish catches by the United States and Japan from 1969 through 1974/1975, and a review of the joint United States-Canada halibut catch from 1960-1968 and from 1969-1975; (5) a listing and plotting of specific locations of high productivity for U.S. fisheries within the Study Area from 1969-1975, for the joint United States-Canadian halibut fishery from 1960-1975, and for Japanese bottomfish catches from 1964-1974; (6) a description of and results obtained from exploratory fishing·cruises for demersal fishes and shellfishes within the Study Area from 1948 through 1970; (7) descriptions of and results of demersal resource assessment surveys for pandalid shrimp during the period of 1971-1976; (8) description of and results of demersal resource assessment surveys in 1961-1962 and 1973-1976; and (9) comparison of the demersal resource assessment.
