Description:"The purpose of this Environmental Assessment (EA) is to provide the information needed to assess the potential environmental impacts associated with the use of a 36-airgun array during the proposed survey. The EA was prepared under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Executive Order 12114, 'Environmental Effects Abroad of Major Federal Actions'. The EA addresses potential impacts of the proposed seismic survey on marine mammals, as well as other species of concern in the area, including sea turtles, seabirds, fish, and invertebrates. The EA also provides useful information in support of the application for an Incidental Harassment Authorization (IHA) from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and Section 7 consultations under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The requested IHA would, if issued, allow the non-intentional, non-injurious 'take by harassment' of small numbers of marine mammals during the proposed seismic survey by L-DEO in the northeast Pacific Ocean during June-July 2012"--Page 1.
