Description:"Miles City is located on the western edge of the northern Great Plains in a shallow part of the Yellowstone River Valley. The Tongue River runs south of the city. To the north, the river bluffs are from 200 to 300 feet above the valley floor. There are no nearby mountain ranges to influence climatic conditions. Temperatures range from very cold in the winter to hot in the summer, which is characteristic of continental climates. The climate of Miles City is classified as semi-arid with less than 10 inches of liquid precipitation about one year in seven"--Introduction.
