Description:The NEXRAD Severe Weather Potential (SWP) algorithm is an automated procedure for the detection of severe local storms. The algorithm identifies individual thunderstorm cells within radar imagery, and, for each cell, yeilds an index proportional to the probability that the cell will shortly produce damaging surface winds, large hail, or tornadoes.
