Description:"Fishery biologists along with commercial and recreational fishermen are exploring and exploiting the deeper waters of the Gulf of Mexico more than ever. However, fishes found in the Gulf waters below 100 fathoms are poorly known and not easily identified. This pictorial guide to common or representative bottom fishes of the upper slope of the Gulf of Mexico between 100 and 600 fathoms is designed to be used by the beginner, but should also be useful to others working offshore Gulf waters from Yucatan and along the northwestern and northeastern slope to Florida. Most users will find the guide handiest when leafing through the pages trying to locate a figure or series of drawings more or less similar to a fish in hand. More careful scrutiny and comparison with described characters will narrow the choices and allow preliminary identification of most kinds encountered in deep trawl samples"--National Sea Grant Library publication website.
