Description:"The goal of this study was to document the primary weather observational history of Bowling Green that recorded such an important block of knowledge of early Kentucky climate. The climatic data and information from the obser vations made there are readily available for the entire period of record. They may be accessed through the National Climatic Data Center at Asheville, North Carolina; the Midwestern Region al Climate Center at Champaign, Illinois; and the Kentucky Climate Center at Western Kent ucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The State Climatologist for Kentucky at the latter can provide advise on the acquisition of or access to them. The challenge of this study was to identify Bowling Green's role in the development of a federal weather observational program and where it fit in the route that followed from the Army and Navy surgeons, through the Smithsonian Institution Observers, the Signal Service Observer Sergeants, the Weather Bureau meteorologists, to the National Weather Service observational network of today"--Introduction.
