Description:"The goal of this study was to document the weather observational history of Memphis, Tennessee. The climatic data, and information from the observations made there, are readily available for the entire period of record. They may be accessed through the National Climatic Data Center, the Midwestern Regional Climate Center, and the State Climatologist of Tennessee. The challenge of this study was to identify Memphis' role in the development of a federal weather observational program and where it fit in the route that followed from the Navy's first efforts, through the Smithsonian Institution, the Signal Service Observer Sergeants, the Weather Bureau meteorologists, and the National Weather Service observational and forecast network of today"--Introduction.
