Description:"It was long rumored in the Turks & Caicos Islands (TCI) that the ancestors of part of the present population arrived directly from Africa when the ship carrying them wrecked somewhere in the Caicos Islands. Archival research conducted over the past six years confirms this and identifies the ship as the Spanish slaver Trouvadore. Recognizing that a sizable proportion of the native population of the TCI today is descended from survivors of this wreck, the 2006 Search for Trouvadore Project grant requested funding for an expanded search for the remains of Trouvadore, wrecked in 1841 near Breezy Point on East Caicos, Turks & Caicos Islands, BWI"--Purpose of Project.
