Description:A network of eight pibal observation points was set up in the San Joaquin and southern Sacramento valleys of California to study the low-level evening jet stream that has been found to exist almost daily during summer. Data was also available from special radiosonde observations, an aircraft temperature sounding, wind tower measurements and hourly and special surface observations. Pibal, observations were taken hourly from 1715 PST to 0015 PST on two consecutive evenings in early August 1971. Vertical sections, both along and across the valley, streamline analyses and time sections were prepared from observed upper-air data and supplemented with analyses of various surface parameters.
