Description:"Based on earlier studies of the Gulf of Mexico reef fish fishery (Scott-Denton and Harper; Scott-Denton; Scott-Denton et al., 2011), longliners off the west coast of Florida typically target red grouper, Epinephelus morio, in shallow waters and yellowedge grouper, E. flavolimbatus, tilefish (Malacanthidae), and sharks (Carcharhinidae) in deeper waters. Red snapper, Lutjanus campechanus , vermilion snapper, Rhomboplites aurorubens, shallow-water grouper (e.g. red grouper) and deep-water grouper (e.g. yellowedge grouper) are sought throughout the Gulf of Mexico on vertical line vessels"--Introduction.
