Description:"The National Ocean Service's (NOS) San Francisco Bay Operational Forecast System (SFBOFS) has been developed using the FVCOM (Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model) three-dimensional hydrodynamic model (Chen et al., 2006c). The domain for this new system extends from the offshore region through the entrance to San Francisco Bay and contains the entire South, Central, and North Bays, San Pablo Bay, Carquinez Strait, and Suisun Bay. It further extends to Rio Vista, California, on the Sacramento River and to Antioch, California, on the San Joaquin River in the Delta. For purpose of this report, the Delta area refers to the area shown in Figure 2.1. The system is run on the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) supercomputers based on a recently developed High Performance Computing Coastal Ocean Modeling Framework (COMF-HPC) (Zhang et al., 2010) to allow four times daily 6-hour nowcasts and 48-hour forecasts"--Executive summary.
