Endangered Species Act status review report: undulate ray, Raja undulata

Filetype[PDF-1.74 MB]

Details:

  • Personal Author:
  • Description:
On July 15, 2013, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) received a petition from WildEarth Guardians to list 81 marine species, including the undulate ray, Raja undulata, as endangered or threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and to designate critical habitat. Under the ESA, if a petition is found to present substantial scientific or commercial information that the petitioned action may be warranted, a status review shall be promptly commenced (16 U.S.C. §1533(b)(3)(A)). NMFS decided that the petition presented substantial scientific information that listing may be warranted and that a status review was necessary (79 FR 10104, February 24, 2014). This report is a compilation of the best available scientific and commercial information on this species, threats it is facing, and an assessment of extinction risk to the species.
