  • Description:
"This report collects information on the locations of stations or observatories active in one or more of the disciplines of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (STP) and participating in the data exchange through the World Data Centers as recommended in the Guide to International Data Exchange [ISCU Panel on WDCs, 1973] and earlier Guides. It also includes stations operating before the data exchange arrangements initiated for the International Geophysical Year (1957-58) for which data are held at World Data Center A for Solar-terrestrial Physics (WDC-A). Some additional stations are included which are proposed for operation during the International Magnetospheric Study (IMS), 1976-78, as listed in the IMS Bulletin No. 1 [SCOSTEP, 1874]. It should be noted that data copies for the stations and times indicated in this report may not be physically in the WDC-A archives. For some disciplines the Guide calls for archiving only data excerpts or summaries at the WDC's or only filing information that the data exists at some other location. However, WDC-A can assist users to obtain data which is not in the archives. Details such as these are covered in the separate data catalogs. These Master Station Lists are collected in this separate report, because of a decision to revise the plans for cataloguing worldwide data in Solar-Terrestrial physics. Hitherto there has been a single users catalog covering all STP disciplines and sub disciplines; the last of these was issued in 1973 as WDC-A Report UAG-30. This comprehensive, all-purpose catalog had become too bulky and inefficient. In the future separate catalogs will be issued for single or small groups of STP disciplines or sub disciplines. These separate catalogs will contain greater detail on the data available through World Data Center A than was possible in the single volume catalog due to space limitations. The first catalog of the new series is already available in published form as report UAG-35, "Catalog of Digital Geomagnetic Variation Data at World Data Center A for Solar-Terrestrial Physics". We have tried to make this Master Station List more than a gazeteer. In addition to the usual alphabetical listing, we have included other presentations we believe of use to the scientific community. Listings are also included of the individual disciplines in a manner appropriate to the respective discipline. The lists would not be possible but for the cooperation of several groups. The geographical data input originated from the various WDC-A for Solar-Terrestrial Physics data clerks and was necessary for generating the computer-produced lists. The university of Denver furnished the computer programs used in calculating the geomagnetic parameters and provided computing time on the NCAP computer (supported by the National Science Foundation). AFCRL provided the cutoff rigidity computations" - - Introduction.
