Description:"Environmental Research and Consulting, Inc. (ERC) conducted gill net sampling for shortnose sturgeon (Acipenser brevirostrum) in the Delaware River during January 1999 through April 2002 for a mark/recapture population estimation program funded by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) (see ERC, 1999 and 2001 for program description). Several accidental mortalities of shortnose sturgeon occurred in the course of this sampling. In 2002, NMFS authorized the collection and analysis of tissues from two shortnose sturgeon that had accidentally been killed in gill nets. This report presents the results of the tissue analysis and provides a preliminary discussion of the potential effects of detected contaminant concentrations on shortnose sturgeon"--Intro.
